Earthquake in Cochamo

posted by Daniel

The quake was barely felt here in the valley. Everybody is fine and many were unaware anything happened. We have attempted to tell all visitors to contact there family upon arriving to a city. Just to remind those with friends or family here, there is no phone to call to or from. The only means is to go to www.cochamo.com/contact and send a message. Messages on the message board will NOT be viewed by those staying in the valley. Again everybody is fine and the valley has been unaffected. Our hearts go out to those parts devastated by this catastrofe.

thank you!

posted by Jan & Giles Phillips

Hi Daniel. A note to say thank you for your lovely refugio & warm welcome from everyone there, and to say that we did make it down the valley on 18 February, despite the 24 hours of heavy rain! The streams were up to 1m deep and very strong currents & a very kind horseman got Jan across the log bridge near the end (the trick is to walk sideways holding on to the rail which is sturdy enough to use for balance!) We'll send you a couple of photos of the mud, soon! Giles & Jan

Climbage

posted by Ryan

Hola! Tengo mis pies de gato y magnesio y "the stoke."

Yo yo! I´m going to be in Valle Cochamó/Puerto Varas area around Mid Feburary for about a week or so (more if the area is sweet). I have a guitar, shoes and chalk, and i´m stoked.

Warning: the stoke comes from a beginner with very little sport experience (I climbed a 5.10 on a top rope back in WA once! Woo!), but quite a bit of time on the small, pitiful boulder problems that I can figure out (V3´s are hard for me). So if you´re down to show a noob some moves and, more importantly, some things about climbing, email me and we´ll rock the house!

Hablo Castellano como un bebe, and english like shakespeare!

Later!

Ryan
